Wong welcomes guilty verdict

National Ethnic Affairs Spokesperson Pansy Wong has welcomed the guilty verdict of Pourshad Marco Arvand for drugging women, stealing their money and the sexual violation of three Asian women.

Mrs Wong encouraged Asian women to come forward and tell their stories when the man was first exposed as an alleged drug predator.

"I welcome this conviction as a step forward for the women concerned. It will instill confidence in others that justice can be done if they stand up to offenders," Mrs Wong said.

When Arvand was first exposed last year of drugging, sexually violating and robbing Asian women, Pansy Wong wrote to Asian women of Japanese, Korean and Chinese ethnic origin for them to come forward and testify.

"It was really important for them to come forward, stand up for their rights and speak out for justice to be done.

"This case demonstrates that Asian women will come forward if they perceive genuine efforts are made to apprehend offenders," she said.
