National supports new racing law
National has supported the passing of the Racing Bill which merges the Racing Board and the TAB.
"This is a governance bill, but it doesn't significantly improve the fortunes of the industry," said Lindsay Tisch, National's racing spokesman.
"The new law doesn't address bloodstock taxation, or gaming duties which suffer a disparity with other gaming industries.
"These issues need to be addressed as a priority for the new racing board."
The new act has also shut out the views of the Government's appointed consultants Price Waterhouse Coopers, and the subsequent Working Party recommendations.
"Stakeholders were lead to believe they had an opportunity for submissions to the Racing Industry Board, but these didn't eventuate with the passing of the Bill last week.
"National looks
forward to working with all the stakeholders to position the
industry to meet the challenges ahead," said Mr Tisch.
