Sir John Jeffries and Hon Laurence Greig reappointed

Prime Minister Helen Clark today announced that Sir John Jeffries, the Commissioner of Security Warrants, and Hon Laurence Greig, the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security, have been appointed for further three year terms.

The Commissioner issues domestic interception warrants jointly with the Prime Minister, who is also the Minister in Charge of the NZ Security Intelligence Service.

The Inspector-General has an oversight and review function over the activities of the Security Intelligence Service and the Government Communications Security Bureau.

Sir John Jeffries, a former High Court Judge, was first appointed Commissioner in 1999. He is also chairman of the Press Council and for five years was on the Police Complaints Authority. Laurence Greig, also a former High Court Judge, was first appointed Inspector-General in 1996.
