National frustrated by Government delays over dog laws
National MP Dr Paul Hutchison says he is frustrated that the Government still hasn't produced a draft amendment bill dealing with dog attacks, especially given the huge public concern.
"The Local Government Select Committee dealing with this issue has recognised the urgency of the issue, but has to wait for the Minister to produce a Supplementary Order Paper before the public can begin to make submissions."
National will continue to push hard for the new dog laws to progress, and that they focus particularly on owner responsibility.
"It is horrific
to note that there are almost 400 very serious dog attacks a
year in New Zealand that require hospitalisation. A large
number of these are preventable, and Government delays are
not acceptable," said Dr Hutchison.
