Increase War Vets Pensions Says NZ First
New Zealand First has called on the Government to increase war veterans’ pensions by an extra 10 percent to recognise their service to the country. The Government announced last week an increase of 2.72 percent in the rates of benefits, allowances and community services card thresholds from 1st April to match the increase in the Consumers Price Index. Veterans spokesperson Bill Gudgeon says that war veterans should get more because of their contribution and also because in many cases they suffer from additional problems such as poor health due to their service.
“We should honour the veterans for the sacrifices they made. The extra money is readily available from the increased government surplus this year,” said Mr Gudgeon.
New Zealand First
will move an amendment to the War Pensions legislation to
gain the extra amount for the
veterans.
