Clear NZ Position On Post War Iraq Needed: Peters
Peters Call For Clear New Zealand Position On Post War Iraq
New Zealand First leader Rt Hon Winston Peters has called on the Prime Minister to clarify New Zealand’s position on the post war Iraqi reconstruction.
“New Zealand has a proud record of constructive and humanitarian support of beleaguered members of the international community and of standing by our allies,” said Mr Peters.
“The Prime Minister’s smart-alecky comments on foreign policy need to be set aside and a clear, unequivocal, unambiguous statement should be made that New Zealand will meet its obligations by positively contributing to the maintenance of peace, the establishment of order and the reconciliation and reconstruction of post war Iraq in the interests of global peace and harmony.
“This is not
about trade, or Prime Ministerial grandstanding – this is
about humanity and it is time for Helen Clark to swallow her
pride and ensure that New Zealand maintains its Humanitarian
reputation,” said Mr
Peters.
