It's time for four weeks leave
The time has come for four weeks leave says Hon Matt Robson MP, Progressive Deputy Leader as submissions on four weeks annual leave have been pouring in to the Transport and Industrial Relations Select Committee today, the deadline for receiving submissions. Business New Zealand have complained about it.
"It is nearly 30 years since the last increase in annual leave entitlements. In that time working conditions have become more stressful with longer hours and higher pressures at work. It is time we recognized this and gave everyone the four weeks annual leave most well paid people already receive.
"Business New Zealand needs to realize that good employers already provide four weeks leave and setting minimum standards is the only way to ensure the most vulnerable in the workforce receive it.
"The old tune they sing about increases in conditions affecting employment of youth and migrants is highly contentious - they use it to suggest we should get rid of all minimum conditions like the minimum wage.
"Get with the program Business New Zealand! Times have moved on and those ideological fallacies are out of date.
"Regional growth has been strong for several years running now. Not only are the regions capable of supporting increased leave, industries like tourism, recreation and do-it-yourself decorating have all been shown to be boosted by increased leave.
"It is
now a time for balancing work and life and caring for our
communities. It is now time for four weeks leave," said
Matt Robson
MP.
