Good news welcome at the end of rough week
The European Union's decision to look at reducing farm subsidies is welcome news for our farmers who've had a rough ride this week with the Government's ridiculous tax plan for animal emissions, says National's Agriculture spokesman David Carter.
"While there's still a long way to go to ensure better market access for New Zealand's agricultural produce into the lucrative European market, this reform package signals that attitudes are starting to shift.
"Any move by the EU to remove subsidies and advance New Zealand farmers on to a level playing field has to be good news.
"And it's the sort of news farmers need to hear as they battle the Government's unwieldy legislation and increasing compliance costs on top of the new so-called 'flatulence tax'," says Mr Carter.
