Stamp of approval for children and families

Stamp of approval for children and families

United Future Leader Peter Dunne today urged all New Zealanders to "give a little" to raise funds for the country's seven Children's Health Camps.

Tomorrow (6 August) New Zealand Post launches its annual Health Stamps. The 45 and 90 cent stamps are on sale for a month and for every stamp purchased five cents goes back to the Foundation running the Children's Health Camps.

"I am a strong supporter of the work that these Camps do with children and families that need help," said Mr Dunne. "That's why I lobbied the Government so hard and so successfully earlier this year when it looked like a funding shortfall might have forced the closure of two or three Camps.

"These Camps take in some of our most vulnerable children and give them the skills, the processes and above all the confidence that they need to keep their lives on track.

"The Camps deliver real results for children and families, and any effort that could keep a young person from becoming a long-term user of social and correctional services, at the taxpayer's expense, deserves the full support of the community.

"These Camps work closely with families so that when a child returns home both the parents and the child are better equipped to cope with today's pressures," he said.

"For the next month an act as simple as buying a stamp and keeping in touch with your own family can make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children and their families," said Mr Dunne.
