Baldock: Fitzsimons reveals gift of prophecy?
Green co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons has falsely claimed negative findings from British farm scale GE trials, the results of which have not even been released, United Future's Larry Baldock said today.
"Now, either Jeanette has the gift of prophecy or she's prepared to use any means at her disposal - and some that aren't - to spin her anti-scientific GM cause," Mr Baldock, United Future's environment spokesman, said.
"Having just returned from the UK, where I met with scientists and farmers' union representatives involved in the trials, I can categorically state that the results of these trials are not yet out.
"And if she's basing her information off discredited leaks, then she should have the integrity to say so.
"It is a shame that the Greens are so willing to sully their arguments with disinformation," he said.
"The farm scale results are being released until midnight tomorrow New Zealand time, and have been kept very tightly under wraps. And The Guardian newspaper, which purportedly commented on leaks, has been discredited by officials.
"Doubtless we will all appreciate the significance of these results, but let's wait 48 hours until they're out, and let's be honest about it," Mr Baldock said.
The British trials have been conducted over four
years on four varieties of GMO crops.
