United Future and Outdoor Recreation sign MOU

United Future leader, Peter Dunne, and the chairman of the Council of Outdoor Recreation New Zealand, Paul Check, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding which aims at seeing the two parties jointly contesting the 2005 general election under the United Future banner.

If the two parties reach full agreement, Outdoor Recreation members will become full members of United Future and will have representation on the United Future party list at the 2005 election.

Welcoming the development, Mr Dunne said he was delighted to have the opportunity to work with a group of New Zealanders who are truly passionate about New Zealand’s outdoor heritage and environment.

“Outdoor Recreation New Zealand members have a genuine involvement in, and practical knowledge of, the environmental issues that confront our country. They are the commonsense Greens, as opposed to the muddle-headed, anti-science, dope smoking poseurs who currently waste the taxpayers’ money in Parliament.

“Together, our two parties have the potential to increase greatly our representation in Parliament, bringing much-needed commonsense, practical experience and intellectual rigour into the environmental debate,” said Mr Dunne.

Mr Check said his Council had unanimously endorsed the move towards joining forces with United Future to promote ORNZ’s outdoor policies.

“There are real issues concerning public access by all New Zealanders to public land that need to be articulated loud and long in Parliament – this MOU is a major step towards achieving that goal,” he said.

“We are determined that the voice of New Zealand’s true environmentalists will be heard, and with the help of United Future, it will happen.”
