Business gets another kicking care of Labour
National Party Industrial Relations spokesman Roger Sowry says the proposed changes to employment law are yet another kick in the teeth for Kiwi businesses.
"The changes seek to reintroduce the amendments that Labour could not pass through Parliament three years ago due to huge opposition from business.
"National remains steadfastly opposed to these changes and will work to stop them," says Mr Sowry.
"Employers are justifiably nervous as unions will be given new powers that will allow them to drag small employers into multi-employer contracts.
"Small employers will lose their ability to set the terms and conditions that best suit their staff and their business.
"Changes to the contracting out provisions (sale of business) will write considerable goodwill off the sale price of businesses.
"Employers and staff need to look closely at this, it threatens to make losers of them both," says Mr Sowry.
