New Zealand First: Yes To Holidays Bill

New Zealand First supports the Holidays Bill progressing in its entirety.

“We had extensive discussion in caucus and decided that New Zealanders are entitled to fair and reasonable holiday entitlements, said Deputy Leader, Peter Brown.

“We recognize that the bill is generally business unfriendly but we believe that problem can be addressed by tax concessions to employers, particularly those employers who employ people on a permanent basis.

“However, employees should be aware that if this bill becomes law as it stands, it will give some incentive to employers to employ casually as against permanently. This is another reason why tax concessions should be favourably considered.

“New Zealand First recognizes we cannot keep up with overseas wages but we can help improve conditions with holiday entitlements. We are sick of seeing our young people going overseas permanently,” said Mr Brown.
