Independent Inquiry Essential Says Peters

Rt. Hon Winston Peters, today said that there should be a full independent inquiry into the renewed rape allegations against a senior police officer and two other former officers.

"New Zealanders need to have faith in the Police Service and that is why the inquiry should be carried out by a suitably qualified independent outsider. No police officer should take part in it.”

Mr Peters said it was also important that there should not be a trial by media over the allegations because this could jeopardise possible legal action later on.
