‘NO!’ ‘NO!’ ‘NO!’ Auckland Port Company

New Zealand First says if ownership responsibilities and the operation of the Auckland marinas are not acceptable core business to the Ports of Auckland, it must give them back to the public, no fee involved.

“Guaranteed public access is not enough,” said Deputy Leader, Peter Brown.

“The public is entitled to full ownership. If, alternatively, the Auckland City Council cannot or will not accept ownership responsibilities on behalf of the public then we must ask the Auckland Regional Council to do so.

“It is not right to say to New Zealanders that the seabed and foreshore must remain in public ownership and yet allow the Auckland Port Company to dispose of public assets such as marinas, possibly into foreign hands, for financial gain.

“I understand this land was gifted to the Council by the Government in 1875 for the people of Auckland, it is outrageous it is being sold. It adds insult to say public access is being guaranteed,” concluded Peter Brown.
