Christchurch Sex Scene Inevitable, Says Peters
New Zealand First leader Rt Hon Winston Peters is asking all MP’s who voted to legalise prostitution if they are happy that a booming child sex trade has been established in Christchurch.
This follows news that children as young as 12 being involved in the sex industry around the streets of central Christchurch.
“What does the local MP Tim Barnett have to say about that? Remember he was responsible for the prostitution legalisation,” said Mr Peters.
“How can he say that legalising prostitution will protect sex workers and stop young people from getting involved when clearly the reverse has happened?
“Legalising prostitution has done nothing but make this field of work more appealing to younger people because stupid MP’s have said it is ‘ok’ to work in this degrading industry.
“The legalisation also sent the wrong signals to sick individuals who prey on children.
“It is time for these MP’s to realise that their actions are having severe consequences on young children around the country and that something needs to be done urgently by Christchurch civic authorities and the police to sort out this problem,” said Mr Peters.
