Once Were Warriors stage show a powerful
performance
Jim Moriarty's stage show 'Once Were Warriors' has been highly acclaimed by Progressive Leader Jim Anderton today. He wants everyone to know about this powerful performance after seeing the show in Christchurch on opening night.
"I applaud Jim Moriarty, the cast and crew of 'Once Were Warriors' for turning Alan Duff's highly acclaimed novel into an impressive musical production, the most impressive musical production I have seen since West Side Story in fact.
"The show manages to tackle the serious issue of family violence head on and to develop out of it a positive message of optimism for the future. That's quite an achievement and I congratulate Jim Moriarty and his team on their work.
"The most inspiring aspect of the show is how it is performed with a chorus of young people, Maori and Pakeha together, from Jim Moriarty's Te Rakau Hua O Te Wao Tapu Trust. These youth come from difficult backgrounds themselves and have found the courage to start turning their lives around. They have certainly made good progress by performing in this excellent musical.
"I encourage
everyone who is concerned about violence in our communities
to go and see the musical of 'Once Were Warriors' and
consider how we can work together to reduce violence," said
Jim Anderton.
