Dunne applauds race debate co-operation

United Future leader Peter Dunne today applauded the first signs of cross-party co-operation that have emerged in the current debate over race relations in New Zealand.

“For some time now, United Future has called for the two major parties to talk to each other, not at each other, as we seek solutions that will result in a unified future for New Zealand.

“The Prime Minister, on National Radio this morning, has opened the door to Dr Brash for consultation on an inquiry into New Zealand’s future constitutional arrangements and the role of the Treaty of Waitangi therein.

“Dr Brash has publicly promised to consider the offer – and I’m delighted at this development.

“I’m also pleased that the Prime Minister says she is listening to what people want concerning the foreshore and seabed issue and is open to the possibility of a sunset clause on any proposed legislation.

“Commonsense is beginning to rear its lovely head in this debate that’s vital to the future of this country and I only hope it continues to prosper,” said Mr Dunne.
