Robson hopes Hide wins ACT leadership

Progressive MP Matt Robson said today he hopes ACT elects Rodney Hide as its leader and so destroys its electoral chances next year.

"Rodney Hide is anti-economic development and never ceases to undermine New Zealand.

"His ill-judged attacks on Investment New Zealand, major investors in New Zealand and Trade & Enterprise over recent weeks and months have absolutely been noticed by investors in our country - investors who offers high quality job opportunities for Kiwis,” said Matt Robson.

George Buckley, the chief executive of highly successful global marine company Brunswick Corp., is on the public record praising the valuable work of Investment New Zealand, but also expressing astonishment and hurt at the "triviality" of the ACT Party's endless political games.

According to the Press of March 12, Mr Buckley had ‘strong words for ACT list MP Rodney Hide's criticism of Investment New Zealand's Visiting Investor Programme, accusing Hide of fundamentally misunderstanding economics and being out of touch with factors that create a successful environment’ when he spoke at the APEC Innovation Breakfast on R&D in the Christchurch.

"Everyone knows that a Rodney Hide-led ACT Party would be the death knell of ACT next year which is why I hope he becomes their leader," Matt Robson said.

“Of the five minor parties in Parliament, only one, Progressive, succeeded in the 2002 General Election to make it into government and into the Cabinet room. The Progressive Party will go into next year's election with six solid years of economic and social development achievements under its belt.

"ACT is at risk of being thrown out of Parliament after nine years of failure as a Perpetual Opposition party which never actually delivered one thing to its supporters," Matt Robson said.
