Adams: New technology gives informed abortion choice
United Future MP Paul Adams says new technology has transformed the abortion debate by giving young mothers – especially under-16 mothers – a more informed choice when deciding between abortion and other options such as adoption.
“New 3D scanning technology featured on television news last night means young mothers can now see very clearly as early as 10 weeks that they are carrying a baby, not merely an unformed, inactive foetus,” he said.
“The information this new technology provides means young mothers will be able to make truly informed choices when deciding whether they want to have an abortion or carry the baby to full term with the intention of raising the child themselves or offering it for adoption,” said Mr Adams.
“Under current law, young mothers do not have to share this major decision with their parents. This puts even greater responsibility on those who advise these young mothers to give them all the facts,” he said.
