Police Must Be Helped To Fight 'P'
Police Must Be Helped To Fight 'P'
New Zealand First law and order spokesperson Ron Mark says that the lack of police resourcing is helping to destroy New Zealand communities as criminal gangs grow stronger on the proceeds of crime.
Mr Mark’s comments follow a warning from Police
Association President Greg O’Connor that local gangs are
sitting on overseas organised crime syndicates, and have
grown into highly organised criminal groups from the
proceeds of illicit sales of pure methamphetamine, or ‘P’.
“This sort of widespread criminal activity is happening right under our noses. Police are warning us about it, and urging the Government to provide better resources to tackle organised crime and criminal gangs, but so far nothing has been done,” Mr Mark said.
“Mr O’Connor has even revealed that the gangs are more paranoid about losing their licences for speeding or drink-driving than they fear getting caught for drug dealing or intimidation. This speaks volumes about our law and order system.
“The Government needs to step up the fight against ‘P’ and toughen sentences for convicted drug dealers, who have to be removed from society for the good of everyone.
“Police need to be provided with the
resources and power to bust gangs and close down labs. If we
don’t get tough on drug dealers now, our communities will
have to pay dearly in the long-term,” Mr Mark concluded.
