Dunne slams highway inertia

Ohariu-Belmont MP, Peter Dunne, is yet again strongly critical of all the national and local politicians, roading agencies and other planning bodies “who constantly dither, duck shove and otherwise prevaricate” while motorists continue to die needlessly on the notorious Centennial Highway.

“I entirely sympathise with all those people of Wellington and Kapiti coast who have been expressing all their anger and frustration following the latest death on the highway,” he said.

“Blood is on the hands of all those people who constantly come up with new ideas for preventing the construction of the Transmission Gully route or the widening of the coast road.

“It is simply not acceptable that yet another report is commissioned on road safety while people are dying and families are devastated.

“If it’s acceptable for the Government to pay compensation to criminals for hurt feelings or their treatment in jail, then surely the families of road death victims should be able to sue all those people who are getting in the way of making travel out of the capital acceptably safe,” said Mr Dunne..
