Apply human rights to Zaoui not a legal manoeuvre
Apply human rights to Ahmed Zaoui, not a legal manoeuvre
The Attorney-General of a centre-left government should not be trying to limit the human rights provisions for any person affected by a security-risk certificate said Progressive MP Matt Robson
Rather than appealing to the Supreme Court to clarify a very clear decision by the Court of Appeal the government should now be reviewing the present law. That law has been used to attempt to deny a fair hearing to a person found to be a refugee by the Refugee Status Appeals Authority and to keep him in prison for over 22 months.
Instead of pursuing costly litigation it is time for the Attorney-General to seek a sensible solution to the lack of fairness in the treatment of Mr Zaoui.
