Helen Clark and Tim Barnett should apologise
"Helen Clark and Tim Barnett should apologise for the inaccurate claim that National gave backing to an inquiry into the constitution during deliberations on the Supreme Court Bill last year," says National Party Justice spokesman Richard Worth.
He is commenting on remarks by both Ms Clark and Mr Barnett that there had been unanimous agreement on a constitutional inquiry at the Justice and Electoral Select Committee in 2003.
"This is untrue. The recommendation actually says 'most of us think it would be an appropriate response to some of the concerns raised by submitters'.
"Mr Barnett and the Prime Minister will be aware that National strongly opposed the Supreme Court Bill, which we described at the time as evidence of Helen Clark's republican agenda.
"Mr Barnett and the Prime Minister should apologise for getting it wrong," says Mr Worth.
