Copeland: Tamihere tax talk all waffle - do it now
The public needs to apply "great scepticism" to Labour's talk on post-election tax cuts, United Future finance spokesman Gordon Copeland said today.
"They've been six years in power now and have a massive surplus and a Budget coming up before the election, and we have John Tamihere talking about tax cuts after the election.
"Just how gullible do they think New Zealanders are?" Mr Copeland asked.
"I think the average Kiwi knows pie-in-the-sky electioneering when they see it."
Mr Copeland called again for the Government to move in this year's Budget to restore taxes to 2000 levels, saying that it had been effectively allowing taxes to increase by not adjusting tax thresholds for inflation during that period.
"The Government can act now if it's serious about helping out Kiwis with tax cuts. Post-election political waffle is just that in this case," he said.
