Out of worker pockets and into Labour's war chest

John Key MP - National Party Finance Spokesman

Out of worker pockets and into Labour's war chest

"The latest set of Government accounts show Labour continues to amass an enormous election-year war chest at the expense of hard working New Zealanders," says National Party Finance spokesman John Key.

"Individuals' tax is running $459 million more than last year.

"Compared with 2003, every single worker was forking out an extra $153 over the five months which ended in November 2004.

"Little wonder we're hearing more and more stories about how much harder it is to buy a house these days.

"National says it's time to reward the workers.

"But rather than offer Kiwi battlers a tax cut, Michael Cullen is opting to hoard a massive election-year war chest.

"Labour continues to claim that tax cuts would be inflationary, but the Finance Minister refuses to explain why that is the case when his own Government plans to spend just as much of our tax on its election bribes," says Mr Key.
