CTU Organises GM Debate Between Labour
And The Greens
The Council of Trade Unions has
organised a debate on the crucial genetic modification issue
between Green co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimmons and the
Minister of Research Science and Technology Pete
Hodgson.
The debate will take place in Wellington on 3 July.
“This is a vital issue for all New Zealanders and the CTU has accepted the responsibility of providing a forum to explore the issues in more detail,” CTU president Ross Wilson said today.
“It is particularly important because the Greens have aimed their equivalent of an Exocet missile at a Labour-led government,” said Ross Wilson.
“The title for the debate seeks to get past the slogans and posturing and processes on the inadequacy or otherwise of the legal and other processes in place to protect our interests.”
Ross Wilson said the forum was an opportunity for union leaders to get a better understanding of the of the issues and inform union members in the run up to the election.
