LSN Joins In GE Visibility Day Activities

Anti-GM organisations won’t be the only ones taking their message to the community on GE visibility day on Saturday, the Chairman of the Life Sciences Network, Dr William Rolleston, said today.

“This election is important for science and technology so we’ve decided to join in the fun to make sure people know all the issues.

“So Aucklanders should look to the sky for inspiration tomorrow (provided the weather doesn’t keep us on the ground).

“Our message for the election is very simply: “Approved use of GM is safe”.

“The regulators careful scrutiny of applications to use GM technology ensures that only those developments which are considered to be safe are approved.

“This doesn’t guarantee absolute safety; but then nothing does and we don’t expect to achieve complete safety in anything else we do.

“During the next few weeks the Life Sciences Network will be promoting the economic, medical and environmental benefits of the careful use of gene technology, as recommended by the Royal Commission and accepted by Parliament. We are confident our support for an informed election will result in a better decision for all New Zealanders,” concluded Dr Rolleston.
