NZ First’s Actions Speak Louder Than Words

NZ First’s Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“CTU support for a ‘Labour-led’ Government would not extend to leading NZ First,” CTU president Ross Wilson told the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union Biennial Conference in Rotorua today.

“Many of our union members put their trust in NZ First in 1996, and were betrayed,” Ross Wilson said.

“As a consequence workers got three more years of the Employment Contracts Act, and a privatised ACC.”

“While we acknowledge that NZ First Deputy Leader Peter Brown played a key role in helping unions to defeat Max Bradford’s ECA and Holidays Act changes in 1998, its actions in 1996 and subsequently have seen it line up in Parliament with National on crucial issues,” he said.

“The record for this term shows very clearly that NZ First voted in Parliament against the Employment Relations Act, the two ACC Bills, and Paid Parental Leave.”

“Actions speak louder than words.”
