Right To Life more important than Corngate

Right To Life more important than Corngate

The major political parties are conducting the election campaign on the issues of health, education and law and order. The most important issue is respect for the right to life. The right to life is the most important human rights issue of this era. New Zealand is a dying country.

According to Statistics New Zealand the number of children born in New Zealand for the year ending March this year is the lowest for a decade. There were 54 700 live births registered for that year with 1.97 births per woman which is about 6 percent below the 2.1 births required for a replacement level.

A total of 16 410 abortions were reported for the year 2000. Since the Contraceptive Sterilsation Act was passed in 1977 more than 258 000 abortions have been reported. Thomas Jefferson, the famous American Statesman said "The care of human life and happiness and not the destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government".

It is both a tragedy and a scandal that both National and Labour-Alliance Governments since 1977 have forgotten the primary duty of government to protect the lives of all New Zealanders. The killing of New Zealanders before birth is now sanctioned and funded by the State under the guise of "health". None of the major parties have a policy to stop this killing by promoting increased legal protection of unborn New Zealanders.

The Christian Heritage Party and United Future Party are the only parties with a policy to:

2. To support increased legal protection for the unborn child.

3. To support the legal recognition of the unborn child as a human beingwith an inalienable right to life.
