PPPs The Second Wave of Rogernomics

Public - Private Partnerships The Second Wave of Rogernomics

The new Labour government is planning the second wave of Rogernomics through promotion of Public-Private partnerships (PPP's)

In 1984 the 4th Labour government introduced Rogernomics through the privatisation policies of Roger Douglas and with the compliance of Helen Clark and Phil Goff among others who sat at the same cabinet table.

Now in the 5th Labour Government the new Roger Douglas and Richard Prebble are Michael Cullen and Paul Swain.

PPP's represent the so-called "third way" of Tony Blair in Britain whereby taxpayers and ratepayers jointly fund infrastructure with the private sector and once is it built the management is handed to the private sector as a "cash cow" to milk the community through user charges.

No wonder Ross Armstrong's now famous letter to private business leaders positively drools at the thought of the huge financial benefits of these deals to the private sector.

In these deals the costs and risks are "socialised" (paid for by the community) but the profits are privatised (taken into the back pocket of large corporations)

Long before Ross Armstrong received such a warm response from the Prime Minister to his plans to fast track paving the way for PPP's, Global Peace and Justice Auckland had organised a public forum to discuss precisely this second wave of Rogernomics through PPP's. The forum will be held on Monday 4th November at 7.30pm at Trades Hall, 147 Great North Road, Grey Lynn.

From that forum concrete action plans will be developed to defend the community from rapacious business interests and their compliant representatives in parliament.
