Monday 27th Jan – Flowers For Peace

On Monday the 27th of January at 3.30pm, people are gathering to lay flowers of peace to Islam at the gates of a Mosque in Ranui, west Auckland. Following this at 4.30pm, the Women of Ranui are holding an event at the Ranui Community Centre where they will be personally giving Flowers to Muslim Women.

The ‘flowers of peace to Islam’ is a gesture of peace started here in NZ by Tim Tipene; and has been picked up internationally, which means that on the 27th flowers of peace are going to be given all around the world.

The 27th is the day that representatives of the United Nations will report on the weapons inspection in Iraq. America and Britain are hoping to lead an attack on Iraq following this date.

‘Flowers to Islam’ is gesture of peace and to demonstrate that people do not support this intention of mass violence on Iraq. Around the globe, people will be laying flowers at the gate of a mosque or giving a flower to a Muslim in person.

“Through this act, our government will witness our desire for peaceful, non-violent resolutions; and that we do not want our country to be party to war. Our government’s attempts to support the violence against Iraq, in order to please America, will only bring acts of violence to us all,” says Mr Tipene. “Our cry for non-violence encourages peace.

Our silence will only add to the violence.” Tim has been invited to attend a peace conference in Iraq to stop the war and will be taking part in the laying of flowers at the mosque in Ranui at 3.30pm on Monday.
