Church Leaders Pray for Peace Initiative

Church Leaders Pray for Peace Initiative

The leaders of New Zealand’s major national churches have asked all their congregations to pray for peace in the Middle East this Sunday, March 16.

The call follows a Church Leaders meeting in Wellington between heads of the Anglican, Associated Churches of Christ, Baptist, Congregational Union, Elim, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Quaker, Roman Catholic and Salvation Army denominations.

The Church Leaders asked their congregations to join a concerted chorus of prayer for peace in the Middle East on Sunday.

Recently some of the Church Leaders issued a statement speaking out against the war on Iraq where they urged the New Zealand government to ‘leave no stone unturned’ in exerting maximum diplomatic pressure to find a non-violent solution to the US –Iraq conflict.

Since then nothing had reduced the threat to peace in the Middle East, the Leaders said. While all avenues to seek resolution still had to be exhausted, the injustice and immorality of an attack remained.
