No Justification For Iraq War
No Justification For Iraq War
“There is no legal or moral justification for the US led war against Iraq which will result in certain death for countless innocent people,” Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson said today.
“The CTU has joined the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and unions throughout the world representing 158 million union members in 150 countries, in condemning the military invasion of Iraq by the US military coalition,” he said.
“It is ordinary people who suffer in wars and it is innocent men, women and children who will be the real casualties of the Iraq war.
“Given the bitter experience of September 11 it is incredible that we now face a situation where, as part of the U. S. Government’s ‘war against terror’, it intends to ignore the UN, breach international law and, in the face of overwhelming opposition from world opinion, take military action against Iraq.”
Ross Wilson said the new US policy of unilateral pre-emptive strikes against other countries could only create increased instability and risk for working people throughout the world.
“The faint hope for the future is that a majority of UN Security Council members resisted the bullying and bribes from the US administration,” he said.
“The CTU looks to our Government to condemn this
unwarranted aggression in the strongest possible terms and
provide leadership in reasserting the role of the United
Nations.”
