ERMA Hearing for Crop and Food GE Onions Trial

ERMA Hearing for Crop and Food GE Onions Trial - Nov 3 - 5

G E Free Canterbury and some other GE Free groups are planning protest action outside the Convention Center throughout the ERMA hearing for an application from Crop and Food to field trial GE onions with Roundup resistance. The ERMA hearing will take place within the Convention Center, Kilmore Street from 9.00am.

GE Free Canterbury will be offering a sausage sizzle at lunch break (12.15pm - 1.00pm) with organic onions and a special sauce on the side, to temp the palate....

A peaceful picket will be present throughout the hearing.

"Many people feel strongly this hearing should not even be happening." says Melanie White, spokesperson for GE Free Canterbury. "What the people of NZ clearly want is for our government to listen to their people and reinstate the moratorium on release of GE organisms into our environment."

Instead, the taxpayers money is being used to process an application which has been strongly opposed in submissions. However, if this is another way GE opponents can have their voice heard, then ERMA can expect every application to be long and expensive, as opposition to GE in our environment will not go away.

All are invited to come and taste our lovely sausages and onions..... and express their opposition to GE from Monday to Wednesday outside the Convention Center.
