Speight's Mates
22/01/02
Overnight the spokespeople for Speight's Breweries made their thoughts on Genetic Modified crop known. Appearing on a billboard at the Waltham Road overbridge in Christchurch as part of their nationwide advertising campaign they stated, "they would have no qualms pulling (genetically modified) crops".
Richard Mangon part of the local anti GE campaign and spokesperson for the group: Christchurch Anti GE Destroyers (CAGED) was pleased with the support from the two Speight's mates.
"We are always grateful for support from two dimensional billboard characters. It is especially interesting considering the appeal with the rural community these two have, as many small farmers around the world will be forced to walk off their farms due to increased dependence on agri-business multinationals like Monsanto". Richard was further quoted as saying, "Good on ya mates!" And was looking forward to "seeing them in the fields."
Speight's Breweries declined to comment until it had spoken further to its two dimensional billboard characters.
