Police Problem is Prohibition

PRESS RELEASE Libertarianz Law & Order

Police Problem is Prohibition
=====================

Dr Rob Moodie and the six whistle blowers have identified the result but not the cause of police corruption: drug prohibition. "Why be surprised?" ask Libertarianz Law & Order spokesman Robert Palmer. "Alcohol prohibition corrupted the American police force of the twenties, and it is now revealed that drug prohibition has corrupted the New Zealand police force of the 'noughties.' Why on earth is anyone surprised?" asks Palmer.

"Drug prohibition has brought ruin to what was once the least corrupt police force in the world," says Palmer. "No inquiry will provide any long term solutions to the problems exposed - it will just provide more band aids to protect politicians and serving officers, and as a mechanism to transfer taxpayer funds to disgruntled former undercover cops. The only answer is to end prohibition as a matter of urgency."

Allegations that the present police association spokesman was a recreational drug user, and his admission that he consumed drugs while on the job - apparently with the agreement of senior officers - demonstrates the clear double standard of authoritarians the world over, the 'do as we say, not as we do' mentality.

Palmer says the problem is not bad cops or poor police management, "it is bad law, very bad law. The problem, in one word, is prohibition. The solution is to end it! Libertarianz policy is that all laws against 'victimless crimes' involving consenting adults will be repealed, in order that real crimes with genuine victims like rape, robbery, murder and theft can be vigorously pursued and the rights of these victims enforced and upheld.

"The problem is political. The solution is political. Are there any politicians with the back bone to sort it out?"

It's enough to make you vote Libertarianz!
