Commissioner Says Police Culture 'Healthier" Now
Police culture today healthier than a decade
ago
Police Commissioner Rob Robinson, said tonight
that any unprofessional or criminal behaviour by Police was
neither tolerated nor condoned.
Responding to Television Three’s 20/20 programme, the Commissioner said the vast majority of Police past and present did a thoroughly professional job with the highest standards of integrity.
Police have a strict procedure for managing allegations involving standards of conduct and behaviour.
"The contents of the programme will be carefully scrutinised and assessed in the new week and I will discuss the issues with the Police Complaints Authority.
The programme indicated that all the former officers featured left the Police about a decade ago.
"I hope everyone who appeared on the programme will cooperate fully with any investigation I might initiate in response to their allegations.
"The current culture of the Police is more healthy today than it was a decade ago in terms attitudes and behaviour. This is evident by current officers holding their peers accountable to high professional standards.
The Commissioner noted that he had asked TV3 to provide
any evidence of a criminal or disciplinary offending nature
to Police so that it might be investigated. So far TV3 had
not responded but Mr Robinson hoped that now the programme
had gone to air, the channel would make any information in
their possession available.
