GPJA Condemns Israel and Calls for Government Action
Global Peace and Justice Auckland is calling on the government to cut all diplomatic links with Israel in protest against yesterday’s assassination of yet another Palestinian leader – Hamas political leader Rantisi.
Israel is using its military domination to conduct its brutal oppression of the Palestinian people and continue its policy of assassination of people who fight back against this oppression.
Israel has repeatedly shown that it is not interested in peace in the Middle East but rather continuing its military assaults as a pretext to seizing yet more Palestinian land – they now have taken more than 78% of the original Palestine for their Jewish state.
They have been able to continue this annexation by using their vast military might and with the unquestioning support of the US which uses Israel to promote America’s aims for the resource rich region.
The New Zealand government claims to have an even-handed approach to the Middle East but this is simply not true. The government recognises the Israeli government but refuses to develop diplomatic links with the Palestinian Authority as a government in waiting.
We have written to Minister of Foreign Affairs Phil Goff today urging the government sever all political and diplomatic links with Israel as well as abandoning all trade with this rogue state.
