Updated Electoral Rolls Available For Checking
Eligible voters are being encouraged to check their enrolment details on the new electoral rolls that are available from today, Wednesday 8 September.
Electoral Enrolment Centre National Manager Murray Wicks said that printed rolls are now available at PostShops, public libraries and Registrars of Electors’ offices around the country. Electors can also check their enrolment details on the elections website www.elections.org.nz.
“It’s important that all electors check to see that they are enrolled and their enrolment details are correct,” Mr Wicks said.
Electors whose enrolment details need updating will need to fill in a new enrolment form. Enrolment forms are available from any PostShop, public library or local council office, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website www.elections.org.nz. Electors can also update their enrolment details or enrol online.
Mr Wicks said that all electors must remember to keep their enrolment details up to date, particularly after shifting house, and he encourages eligible electors who are currently not enrolled to fill in an enrolment form as soon as possible.
“While the electoral rolls for the upcoming local council and district health board elections have now closed, eligible electors can still enrol to vote in them but they will also need to request special voting papers from their local Electoral Officer. They can do this by calling their local council office,” Mr Wicks said.
Mr Wicks said that nationwide, there are around 240,000 eligible electors who are currently not enrolled. This figure represents around 8 per cent of the estimated eligible voting population.
