Dear friends,
GPJA FORUM THIS MONDAY, 7PM, 147 GREAT NORTH RD, GREY LYNN The guest speaker at this month's GPJA Forum is Selwyn Manning - Scoop Media Co-editor and author of the book "I almost forgot about the Moon - The disinformation campaign against Ahmed Zaoui". Selwyn attended the recent Pacific Island Forum meeting in Samoa and will speak on the relationship between New Zealand/Australia and the Pacific region as well as provide a background to and update on the situation in French Polynesia where the French government is striving to undermine the independence movement.
Before the main forum at 6pm there will be a FREE ZAOUI NOW, RALLY ORGANISING COMMITTEE - This meeting is for anyone who wants to help organise a rally outside of Mount Eden Prison on Saturday December 4th at noon. The demonstration is to highlight the 2nd year of his imprisonment.
ZHAOUI BOOK RELEASE "I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THE MOON" - the disinformation campaign against Ahmed Zaoui - is now available from GPJA at the UNITE office - $15 with all proceeds to go to the Zaoui family. This book is a brilliant expose by Scoop Media editor Selwyn Manning of the campaign to discredit Zaoui by Algeria and France and the complicity of New Zealand officials in this as our country has tried to paint itself as a loyal footsoldier in the war on terror. Get in early for XMAS - no I'm not joking - and help make the Zaoui XMAS a bit happier! Order from miket@pl.net, or get a copy from the Unite Office, Ground Floor, Trades Hall, 147 Great North Rd, Grey Lynn

The PEACE JUKEBOX is now playing hours of anti-war music for free at http://www.peace-not-war.org. Songs written during the Bush Presidency can be heard as high-quality MP3s, with lyrics, on this ad-free music site. This is the most prolific period of protest song-writing in history, and home-studio technology makes it possible for the world to hear these radical songs. The PEACE JUKEBOX is currently playing anti-war songs by Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5, Public Enemy, Jane's Addiction, The Cure, Ani DiFranco, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Faithless, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Lenny Kravitz, Paris, System of a Down, Propagandhi, Banco de Gaia, Zach de la Rocha... hiphop, rock, punk, acoustic, classical and spoken word. The Peace Not War Music Project has received over 500 anti-war songs from different kinds of musicians, and they will all be going online. A translation facility is being developed for non-English speakers to read the lyrics in multiple languages. Musicians are invited to submit their songs as MP3s (192kbps, best quality), with full lyrics and credit information included, by email to jukebox@peace-not-war.org.
Peace Not War CDs are being sold by GPJA to raise funds for our campaigns, and the Jukebox is an inspiring resource for everyone involved in the new global peace movement. ORDER FROM miket@pl.net (Vol 1 and Vol 2 available for $30 each).
Christian Peace Group Supports Divestment from Israel The 10th anniversary assembly of Pax Christi Aotearoa-New Zealand, held in Auckland on 1-2 October, endorsed the Anglican Peace and Justice Networks and Presbyterian Church of the United States in their recent call for divestment in Israel modelled on the popular boycott of apartheid South Africa. "We are constantly reminded by the current President of Pax Christi International, Michel Sabbah, who is also Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, of the suffering of his Palestinian people", said Kevin McBride, national coordinator of Pax Christi Aotearoa-NZ. "We haven't always known how to intervene from this distance but this initiative gives us a very concrete means of response. Hopefully, it will go some way to awakening the Israeli government to the folly of their current policy and contribute towards the cessation of violence and a negotiated and lasting peace." Initiators of the campaign were inspired by the boycott of South Africa which is credited with bringing about the end of its apartheid regime. The Pax Christi assembly will also call on the Catholic Church of New Zealand and its members and all other New Zealand faith groups to endorse this divestment initiative. http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,2763,1311571,00.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4510221,00.html
