Senate Backs Right to Protest at s11

Greens Senator Bob Brown was today successful in getting Senate backing for a motion in support of the right to protest at the World Economic Forum (s11).

The motion read:

That the Senate supports the right of people to join the S11 protest at the World Economic Forum in Melbourne in the week beginning 10 September 2000

"This will be of assistance to people attending the protest," Senator Brown said.

"The motion will be of some reassurance to those still deciding whether to attend. They now have Senate backing.

Senator Brown repeated his calls for the protest to be 'noisy but peaceful'.

Senator Brown will join Green MPs from across Australia and New Zealand for a press conference to support s11 in Melbourne on Sunday September 10 at 11am.
