Forum Motorcade: Minimal traffic disruption likely

Minimal traffic disruption likely from Forum Motorcade

A motorcade of Leaders travelling to the Pacific Islands Forum Retreat at Government House this Friday is expected to have little impact on Auckland commuters.

Although the route crosses Queen Street, officials and police are confident that any disruption will be minimal. Each intersection will have a pointsman, in order to keep the traffic flowing both ways as much as possible.

Cars from the motorcade will travel through Mayoral Drive, Wakefield Street, Symonds Street, Mt Eden Road, Clive Road, Mountain Road and into Government House grounds between 8.30am and 9.00am on Friday 15th August.

“The whole process will be carefully managed in order to minimise disruption to Auckland City motorists, and it should be all over within half an hour”, said Inspector Mark Hall, the officer in charge of the police operation, “It would be good if people planned their travel to work outside of those times on Friday”.

It is anticipated that disruption to afternoon traffic on the return journey will be even more minimal with the motorcade breaking up into smaller groups.
