Man escapes from Upper Hutt Police Station

Upper Hutt Police are reviewing security arrangements after a man escaped from an interview room last night.

Inspector Brett Kane, Upper Hutt Area Commander, says the escape is unfortunate. "We're doing a check of our fittings and systems to avoid a repeat."

Dallas Tani Clarke, a 25-year-old male Maori, was being interviewed in the station at 6.30pm about some alleged dishonesty offences. He was left momentarily in a ground floor interview room, forced some vertical security bars and escaped out of the window.

Police are now appealing for public help in finding Clarke who is described as thin to medium build, with distinctive chipped front teeth, short spikey black hair and 5ft 10in tall.

He was last seen on Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, wearing a black top with white writing on it, and blue jeans. He usually lives in the Upper Hutt area but has friends throughout the greater Wellington region.

Clarke should be treated with caution. If anyone knows where Clarke is or has seen him, they're asked to immediately contact their nearest police station.
