Woman Sought For Assisting Burton Evade Police

New Zealand Police National News Release

12 January 2007

Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Colleen Francis Molloy aged 36 of Taita as an accessory after the fact in regards to the Wellington home invasion charges faced by Graeme Burton and Scott Elliot.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter says "Police have evidence that Molloy actively assisted Burton evade the police between the alleged home invasion in Wellington on the 3rd of January and the shootings on the firebreak above Lower Hutt which resulted in the death of Karl Kuchenbecker and the injuries of 4 mountain bikers on the 6th of January."

He has refused to elaborate on what that evidence was but says that Molloy has left her home address and she is now actively avoiding Police who are seeking her in connecting with this matter. He has confirmed that her house was one of several searched by Armed Offenders Squad members on Saturday afternoon prior to the shootings.

Police are also still seeking people who were on the firebreaks of the eastern hill above Lower Hutt on Saturday to contact them. Several member of the public have contacted police but other people were also in the area. Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter says "Police want to speak to these people as they may have seen something significant without realising it."

Police are also seeking the public help in identifying a man at Wellington Hospital who threatened to kill police officers involved in Burton's capture and who smashed windows of a marked patrol car parked at the hospital on Wednesday morning. He says "We have received some information but more is needed. At this stage we don't know who this man is."
