Local election of ECan candidates

Environment Canterbury has received 36 nominations for candidates to stand in the October regional council elections. These candidates are standing in eight constituencies: four Christchurch constituencies and four out of Christchurch, for 14 councillor positions. Of these, eight are within Christchurch, six are outside of Christchurch – two in South Canterbury, two in North Canterbury and one each for Rakaia (includes Ashburton) and Selwyn/Banks Peninsula.

The Rakaia constituency won’t be holding an election as the incumbent regional councillor, Angus McKay, is the only nominee.

Three years ago, 34 nominations were received with all constituencies contested.
