Whangarei Investigate reported rape attack

MEDIA RELEASE

Whangarei Police are currently investigating a reported rape attack alleged to have occurred overnight (23/09/07) at approximately 2:30am.

The female Victim, aged 18 years, was alone inside public toilets at Tarewa Park, Otaika, Whangarei, when she was confronted by two male intruders.

The offenders immediately forced themselves upon the Victim and the attack escalated to the point where they both raped her.

Following the incident, the offenders decamped from the scene in a vehicle travelling in the direction of the city centre.

After the vehicle had left, the Victim managed to raise the alarm by alerting a passing motorist, following which the matter was reported to the Police.

The vehicle is described as a Mitsubishi Gallant four door sedan, coloured silver.

The offenders are both believed to be Maori and aged in their late teens or early twenties.

The Victim is obviously distressed as a result of the incident, but fortunately suffered no serious physical injuries, and is coping well under the circumstances.

Any person(s) who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time are asked to contact the Whangarei Police on (09) 430 4500.
