Operation REFORM leads to 2 Kilo Ephedrine Seizure

A joint Police and Customs operation has resulted in the arrest of 24 year old New Zealand resident in Wellington today on a charge of Importing the Class 'C' Controlled drug Ephedrine.

Ephedrine is a pre curser ingredient for Methamphetamine.

Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson of the Wellington Metro CIB stated "This is an excellent example of domestic and international enforcement agencies working closely together to identify groups that are bringing in these products to manufacture Class A drugs".

"Approximately 2 kilos of Ephedrine has been seized which is conservatively estimated to cook half a million dollars worth of the drug".

"Due to some of the excellent border control systems that NZ Customs have in place and quality intelligence, we were able to identify a suspicious delivery out of Thailand to a Wellington address.

As a result Police executed search warrants at two Newtown addresses and a 24 year old female will appear in the Wellington District Court.

Methamphetamine and its pre curser ingredients continue to be a focus for Police and Customs.
