Ports of Auckland - Tsunami Response

Ports of Auckland - Tsunami Response

28 February 2010 - update 1.30 pm

Commercial shipping and transport operations at the Waitemata seaport have resumed with all affected vessels, including the Dawn Princess cruise ship, either already re-berthed or returning to port.

Ports of Auckland's Port Services General Manager Wayne Mills says all vessels will remain on standby to leave port at short notice, for at least the next 12 hours.

"We will continue to take a cautious approach," says Mr Mills.

Mr Mills says the decision to resume operations was made in conjunction with the Auckland Regional Council Harbourmaster and on the basis of advice received from Civil Defence.

Mr Mills said the evacuation had gone to plan and that all affected vessels would be re-berthed within an hour and a half.
