Tauranga Police seek tips on dangerous drivers

Tauranga Police seek public information on dangerous driver

Local Police are seeking information from the public in relation to a potentially serious driving incident that occurred on Monday 1st March 2010.

The incident took place on Ötümoetai Road in the Brookfield area at around 4:30pm, when a silver 'boy racer' type car made a right hand turn while exiting the shop car parking area with the wheels of the car spinning.

This car then passed a truck that had stopped at the pedestrian crossing for a red light. The car continued at speed against the red light, narrowly missing a 9 year old boy on a pedestrian crossing. The child had a narrow escape and put his hand out to shield himself from harm. The car struck the child's hand and continued on, causing vehicles using the Brookfield round about to take evasive action.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed this event and can provide information leading to the identity of the car and driver to contact the Tauranga South Police.
